Supporting Dravet Syndrome UK: SVS Presents Charity Donation

At SVS, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that make a lasting impact. During our 20th Anniversary celebration, we hosted raffles and auctions to raise funds for four local charities. We are proud to share that the event raised a tremendous total of £4,495.00, with each charity receiving £1,123.75. One of those charities was Dravet Syndrome UK.

A Cause Close to Our Hearts

Linzi Cowley, Fundraising Co-ordinator for the charity, said, “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the wonderful staff and partners at Specialist Valve Services Ltd in Aberdeenshire, along with Alina Forbes, for our nomination – your support will make a huge and significant difference to the lives of those living with this catastrophic condition.”

Why Dravet Syndrome UK Matters to us as a company

Alina Forbes, SVS Sales Manager, nominated this charity for a deeply personal reason.

“This charity is very important to me,” Alina explained. “It has affected my best friend’s family. Dravet syndrome is a very rare and severe form of epilepsy that begins in infancy. Only one or two children out of every 500 with epilepsy are likely to be diagnosed with this condition.”

Alina went on to explain how difficult the journey can be.

“It’s heart-breaking to witness the impact it has had on young Nathan, my friend’s nephew. Seizures begin in the first year of life and can be both prolonged and frequent. These episodes often cause developmental delays, behavioural issues, and chronic health complications.”

Though she doesn’t claim to be a medical expert, Alina stressed how real and raw the experience has been for the family.

“It’s incredibly tough for those surrounding a child with this condition. I hope this donation contributes to further research and support for the children and families affected every day.”

About Dravet Syndrome UK

Dravet Syndrome UK is a registered independent charity in the UK that provides support, education, and funds medical research into this life-altering condition. Founded by parents in 2008, the charity filled a vital gap in treatment information and support for families facing Dravet syndrome.

What began with just 30 member families has now grown into a supportive network of nearly 400 families. The charity continues to push forward, offering not just emotional support but practical tools and resources to improve the quality of life for children living with the syndrome.

At SVS, we are proud to stand with organisations like Dravet Syndrome UK. Together, we can help make a difference—one donation, one family, and one future at a time.

During the night we also held various raffles in aid of charity and raised a colossal £4,748.50  for the following local charities. Thank you to all who contributed, it means a lot to us.
